Greetings Enterprising Moms!
"Power can be taken, but not given. The process of the taking is empowerment in itself."
- Gloria Steinem
This fall seems to be a time of empowerment for women. Over the past several weeks I've had so many encounters, both in person and in the virtual world, that have centered around women helping women and/or women helping themselves and then others ... which, in turn, helps all. The Enterprising Moms is proud to have the theme empowerment central to its mission.
This month, we are continuing to focus our efforts on building meaningful and lasting relationships that are fruitful in business and in everyday life and we invite you to join us at next week's Connect and Collaborate event.
Connect & Collaborate Tuesday, October 12th @ 9:30am at Connect113
Join us for a networking event where you'll also have the opportunity to engage in rich discussions on two hot topics in The Enterprising Moms community: work-life balance/integration and social media.
Come connect with fellow entrepreneurial moms, share your struggles and celebrate your triumphs with women who really get it. You'll participate in creative and collaborative problem solving with a group of highly talented and resourceful women with a broad range of experiences who are eager to share. We'll have two sets of 'round table' discussions and you'll have the opportunity to swap tables mid-way through so that you have an opportunity to connect with all attendees.
Register Today and Save!
- Early Bird: The early bird registration fee expires on Friday, October 8th, so register today!
- Bring-a-Friend Discount: Want $5 off your registration fee? Just invite a friend who's a first-time attendee to attend the event with you (Enterprising Mom or not). Enter your friend's name in the comments field when you register and ask them to enter your name when they register. You'll each receive a $5 refund off your registration fee. Register today!
Thank You for Your Generosity
September Cause Spotlight Success!
If you received last month's newsletter or attended our September event, you'll recall that TEM member Angela Meyers, of Meyers Marketing Strategy, was featured in our cause spotlight. She was raising money so that she could participate in the Susan G. Komen 3-Day 60-mile Breast Cancer Walk that begins October 7th. We're really thrilled to report that, thanks in part to the contributions of fellow TEM members, Angela was able to meet and exceed her goal, and is likely prepping for or participating in the walk as you read this. Thanks again for your support!

Wednesday, October 13, 2010
5:30 - 7:30 pm
Busboys and Poets, DC
Join us for a book signing and discussion with author Gloria Feldt about her new book No Excuses: 9 Ways Women Can Change How We Think about Power.
Feminist icon Gloria Feldt pulls no punches in this new book, which argues that the most confounding problem facing women today isn’t that doors of opportunity aren’t open, but that not enough women are walking through them.
From the boardroom to the bedroom, public office to personal relationships, she asserts ... that nobody is keeping women from parity - except themselves. Feldt puts women's power into an historical context, showing the ways in which women have made huge leaps forward in the past, only to pull back right when they were at the threshold.
Feldt argues that there's no excuse—whether it's the way women are socialized, or pressure to conform, or work/life balance issues—for women today not to own their power.
Gloria Feldt is the former president and CEO of Planned Parenthood and a sought-after public speaker.
Book available for purchase at the Global Exchange store (located within Busboys and Poets, 5th & K). FREE and open to the public. Co-sponsored by RH Reality Check.

Flexibility and "work-life balance" were once dismissed as "mommy issues"...but no longer. The most successful companies are realizing that to promote company loyalty, and to attract and retain the best employees, they must provide a workplace environment that allows every individual to maintain that personalized balance of work and home life.
Those same companies benefit from access to an exceptional pool of loyal talent who bring skills and experience to the table.
The Detours and OnRamps Forum, four years strong, has brought together talented women and forward-thinking companies for mutual benefit. Ideas are shared, conversations are started, and relationships are begun that have led to new positions, new career paths, and even new companies.
If you've got kids, planning on kids, or even if you're in the position of just wanting career balance for your own reasons—and if you want to tap into an outstanding network of great women—make plans to join us.
Topics/Sessions include:
- The Work Environment
- Work-Life Balance
- Entrepreneurship
- Negotiating Skills
- Jobs Search Tactics and Strategies
- Getting Your Wardrobe in Shape
Get details and register. Mention TEM and get $25 off the registration fee. Bring a friend or two and get up to an additional $20 off! |
We'd also appreciate your help in spreading the word about these events and hope to see you there!
